AZ Bill will Ban Teen Cell Phone Use


Unable to get a broader ban, state lawmakers moved Wednesday to crack down on cell phone use on one group unable to vote: new teen drivers.


Without dissent, the Senate Committee on Public Safety and Human Services voted to make it illegal for youngsters with a learner's permit to use a cell phone for any reason except an emergency. That covers both texting and actual chatting.

Safety advocates push for tougher national teen driver laws

Article in AJC today about teen driving posted here. Excerpt from the article:

Georgia currently allows 15-year-olds to get conditional learner permits; the STANDUP Act as proposed wouldn't allow anyone under 16 to get a permit.

Bob Dallas, director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, said the state supports the STANDUP Act in general.
